Building partnerships in the community through volunteering

While Swans has played a significant community development role in the Pilbara area for many years through its VSwans program, Swans are now being recognised for it's work in the Perth community.
Matt Hewitson, Swans Director for Community and Facilities Development, is looking to engage with people and community groups local to Bassendean and the City of Swan who are interested in volunteering, or who are interested in creating a community partnership with the club.
“While we are building on the field, we are leading the WAFL when it comes to community outreach. We are always wanting to engage with new people, regardless of their interest in footy, to get involved with our community programs.”
“As a club, we’ve always had great support from our volunteers” he said. “ Our volunteers on match days for both our WAFL and WAFLW teams turn up every week regardless of where we are playing. The Past Players & Officials Association and the Swansmen in particular do a massive amount of work behind the scenes, and we wouldn’t be here without them.
“As a club, we also hold regular Swans Days at Foodbank, where we pack food hampers for those in need, and now hold a free weekly Community Breakfast and karaoke party for people with challenges, every Wednesday morning at the club.”
At a recent meeting with the club, Federal Member for Perth, Patrick Gorman, commented that “Swan Districts Football Club plays an incredibly important role in our community, by using its reach to support and lead a number of programs targeted at local at-risk youth.”
With some wonderful initiatives already occurring in and around the club’s metropolitan and regional communities, it has never been a better time to show your passion for the black and whites, all while helping families and individuals throughout the local community.
If you would like to put your name down as a volunteer, or would like to know more, we’d love to hear from you.
