Swan Districts President Issues Challenge to Supporters
With just over one week to go before the start of the 2020 Optus WAFL and WAFLW Premiership Seasons, Club President, Peter Hodyl, has issued a strong challenge to all Swan Districts and West Perth fans to flock in droves to Steel Blue Oval, as part of the biggest official opening of football in WA.
With a long awaited Round 1 seeing many teams matching up against their local foes, including the Fremantle derby, Hodyl is calling on supporters to turn Bassendean into a sea of black & white, and even red & blue.
“It's been a long time coming but season 2020 is getting underway on the 18th July, and we can’t wait” he said.
“I hear a lot from both East and South Fremantle, gloating about potentially having a huge crowd at their first game.
“This is very disrespectful to the rest of the competition, especially for the Swans, as our supporters have proven time and time again that they are the most committed across all WAFL clubs.
“Recent history clearly shows that Swans have a huge following, regardless of the weather or our ladder position, by continually leading home game attendances throughout the WAFL competition.
“It is time for all Swans supporters to show the Port clubs that they run a very distant second in regards to supporter numbers at games.
“I also call on the Garlic Munchers faithful to come out of the woodwork to show them that the biggest game in town is Swan Districts vs West Perth.
“Let’s turn up and show the Port clubs they don't have a mortgage on attendances.”
There will be plenty of free fun for the kids in our Swans Play Zone, with Laser Tag, a Bouncy Castle, Spider Mountain, Climbing Wall, Bungee Tramps, Velcro Fly Wall, Face Painting and more!
Fan favourites; Longest Kick, Chase the Swan and $100 Bin it to Win it, will also make their return to Steel Blue Oval, along with a free sausage sizzle and soft drink for all Swans members.
Kids under 16 are free, so head to Steel Blue Oval on Saturday July 18th for a day of good fun and great footy. Colts kick off at 9am, the Reserves at 11:30am and League at 2:15pm. The WAFLW fixtures are set to be released shortly.
