Swan Districts Football Club COVID-19 Update
To all Swans Members and Supporters,
The coronavirus is sweeping across the world and is presenting us with challenges which are unprecedented for our generation. However, this is not a time to panic.
It’s important that our club takes precautionary measures to prevent and slow the transmission of the virus. Our primary focus is protecting our people and safeguarding our business. We also play an important role helping the State and country flatten the curve preventing an exponential outbreak.
We are taking control of the situation to the best of our ability, and that means putting in place measures that will cause some disruption to all of us. However, these measures are in line with advice from the World Health Organisation and Department of Health.
All AFL State and Territories have agreed to be guided by the AFL in a national unified response to this challenge. This includes state league competitions and community football. It allows us to receive the most up to date and accurate information from all relevant authorities being via the AFL.
I know that all of you will have been watching television and reading of the hysteria in the newspapers, and it can feel quite scary. That's ok. This is an extremely challenging time for the global community, for businesses, our local communities and each of us.
It is a time to look out for each other and our club needs to play its part.
We have established a Swans COVID-19 Task Force to help guide the club through the challenges as they emerge during this rapidly evolving situation. You’ll receive further updates as they come to hand.
Today we advised staff, players and volunteers that we’ve implemented changes to our current business practices. These will remain in place until 24 April but will continually be reviewed.
These include postponing all events scheduled at Steel Blue before 24th April. These events will be rescheduled on a later date where practicable. These include the following:
- Need for a Feed – weekly commencing 25 March
- Weekly Thursday Night Supporters Night
- Swansmen Dinner Meeting – 18 March
- Swans Family Day – 29 March
- School Ambassadors Breakfast – 31 March
- Official Opening of the Women’s Changerooms – 31 March
- Swans WAFL Season Launch – 2 April
- Swans Networking Evening at Mandoon – 14 April
- Swans WAFLW Season Launch – 23 April
We remain in close communication with the WAFC and AFL with respect to these precautionary measures, and our temporary work practice adjustments are in line with many other governments and corporate organisations.
We thank you for your understanding.
We do not take the introduction of these measures lightly and they are being done to ensure we do all we can to protect the health and welfare of you, your families and our club.
We are in unprecedented circumstances and the situation is changing daily. Should there be any changes or further advice received, I will share it with you immediately.
Regards
Jeff Dennis
