It's Getting Closer...
So as we draw almost to a close on our pre-season, we have made some great steps forward.
After losing 6 games by under 2 kicks last year, a real focus has been on the little things and doing them well, not accepting near enough is good enough and training with intensity and at a standard that is required for WAFL league football.
We learnt that a missed handball here, a loose kick there, a fumbled ground ball or a dropped mark, can be the difference between winning and losing a game of League football.
Talking that into account, Ted Polglaze has brought a fresh look to training and something the group has thoroughly enjoyed, maybe not the 3 hour skill sessions, but on the whole the new approach to how we go about our training has been well received.
Part of the fresh approach has been the players taking more ownership of their football. They have been driving our standards during sessions, making sure that everyone is on the same page and we are pulling in the same direction.
This has been culminating in the player run session on Saturday mornings, where they are getting together and doing their own conditioning.
In regards to the player group, Jake Nuich has come back to the club, and it is well known now that we added other quality footballers in Fisher, Anderson, Costigan, Sideris, Waite, Bayok, Hughes, Dugan and more, we have also added quality people in getting these guys to our club.
Again, I stress though, these guys will add, but we will need continued growth from our own district players. Bain, Reidy, Italiano, Beck, Watson, Ireland, Clarke, Farrant, Garcia, O’Sullivan need to take the next step this year, they need to follow in the footsteps of our emerging leaders in guys like Turner and Cipro and take ownership of their footy club.
After an enjoyable and hard working pre season, our boys are excited and keen to hit the ground running. We kick off our pre season campaign next Wednesday the 26th of Feb at 6.30pm under lights at Mineral Resources park against WCE.
Come down, have a look at the new faces and a few of the boys of the future.
