Round 7 Women’s Preview v Perth
Swan Districts will play Perth for the first ever time in the WAFL Women’s competition on Saturday at Steel Blue Oval looking to make it four consecutive wins for the 2025 season.
There is clear air for the WAFL Women’s competition this weekend to take the spotlight with the general break for the men who are playing a State game against South Australia in Adelaide.
For Swan Districts, that means a home game on Saturday afternoon against Perth at Steel Blue Oval with the League match beginning at 3:20pm. That comes on the back of the Rogers Cup match up that starts at 1:15pm.
Swan Districts is back home for the Saturday afternoon clash fresh off a strong 32-point victory last Saturday on the road to East Fremantle which was a third straight win for the black-and-whites this season.
As a result, Swans currently sit in third position on the WAFL Women’s ladder with a 4-1 record and Saturday’s game with another win over the Demons presents a chance to potentially move into second place with the top two undefeated teams, Subiaco and Claremont, playing one another.
Perth has only joined the WAFL Women’s competition for the first time this season as well making Saturday’s game with Swan Districts the first time that the two teams have.
While the Demons are yet to win a game this season after joining the league, they have been more competitive than the other new additions over the years who generally have struggled to kick a goal in games throughout their inaugural campaigns.
Perth might have still been losing their games by an average of 41.2 points so far, but they have been able to find ways to score including kicking five goals in Round 4 against East Perth and then four last week against the undefeated Claremont.
Swan Districts beat East Fremantle by 32 points at The Good Grocer Park last week and from that team, Summer Ajduk, Adi Griffith, Emma Humphries, Tannah Lee and Summer Yarran all come into the squad for Saturday’s game with Perth.
There is a significant out for Swans, though, with State ruck Lauren Quaife out of the Round 7 line-up.
Perth is still hunting a first WAFL Women’s win and from the team that lost to Claremont in a competitive showing last week, the Demons have added Miranda Carmody, Tessa Kongras, Milla Spalding and Breanna Wills to their squad to play Swan Districts at Steel Blue Oval.
Prior to that and Swan Districts will also play Perth in the Round 7 Rogers Cup match up at Steel Blue Oval.
Swans come into the contest in fourth position on the Rogers Cup ladder with a 3-2 record while the Demons are only one game behind sitting in seventh place at 2-3.
Swan Districts are fresh off a heartbreaking one-point defeat last Sunday to East Fremantle but that came just a week after they became the first team to score a Rogers Cup victory against West Perth since all the way back in 2022.
Perth, meanwhile, went down to Claremont last week by 19 points at Revo Fitness Stadium on the back of the bye in Round 5 and before that scoring a thumping 76-point victory against East Perth at Mineral Resources Park.
It’s the first time that Swans and the Demons have met this Rogers Cup season and a fourth time overall with Swan Districts winning the first two meetings before Perth did breakthrough in the most recent clash for the 26-point victory last year.
From that one-point loss to East Fremantle last week, Swan Districts has added Charli Grau, Nahala Hall, Leah Howard, Olivia Rasenberg and Zoe Tickner to the squad to take on Perth on Saturday.
The only out at this stage for Swans from last week’s team is Khalia Fawcett.
Perth is looking for a third win of the season with Lacy Bateman, Swayde Follows, Imogen Leahy, Ruby Norrish and Evelyn Thomas into the squad with Frankie Biglands going out.
