Round 18 Men’s Preview v Claremont

Swan Districts have the chance to win consecutive games for the first time this WAFL Men’s season when they take on Claremont at Revo Fitness Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Swan Districts earned the hard fought 13-point victory against Subiaco at Steel Blue Oval last Saturday ahead of now taking on the Tigers this Saturday at Revo Fitness Stadium with the game getting underway at 2.30pm.

That win last week for Swans gave them five wins for the season to date as they take on a Tigers team currently sitting in second position with 11 wins, three losses and a draw but needing to keep winning to stay where they are on the ladder.

Saturday’s game will be the second time the two teams have met this season with the first encounter back in Round 7 at Steel Blue Oval with Claremont ending up beating Swan Districts by 42 points.

Prior to that and the Swans had won both games against the Tigers in the 2024 season by seven points at Steel Blue Oval and then by 17 points on their previous trip to Revo Fitness Stadium.

Chase Loftus made his debut with Swan Districts last Saturday in the win over Subiaco and is now looking forward to the challenge of taking on a powerful Claremont outfit including Sandover Medal winning midfielders Bailey Rogers, Jye Bolton and Callan England.

“One of the first things I heard about the club when I was coming over was the rivalry and the history of good games that Swans have played against Claremont,” Loftus said.

“So I’ve heard that there’s always a bit of feeling going into every game that we are playing against Claremont so it will be good to get to play them this week. Hopefully we can get the win against them.”

Coming off last Saturday’s win in the challenging conditions against Subiaco, Swan Districts have added Seb Bright, Luke Cotellessa, Ben Hewett, Luke Kelly and Troy Yukich to the squad for the clash with Claremont.

The only out at this stage for the Swans against the Tigers is Jackson McLachlan.

Claremont are coming off a win against Peel Thunder and from that team, Josh Howard, Kalin Lane, Max Rohr and Sam Van Rooyen have been added to their squad for the clash with the Swans.

The colts match up will get things underway at Revo Fitness Stadium on Saturday morning starting at 9:15am between Swan Districts and Claremont.

It’s an important game in the context of the season for both teams as well with the Swans currently sitting in fourth position with an 8-6 record while the Tigers are only just behind at 7-6.

After the bye in Round 16, Swan Districts were back in action in the colts last Saturday and recorded a thrilling three-point win in tough conditions against Subiaco to remain in fourth position coming into the match up with Claremont.

The reserves battle between Swan Districts and Claremont then gets underway at Revo Fitness Stadium at 11:45am on Saturday.

Coming into the game and Swans are sitting in fourth position on the reserves ladder with an 8-6 record while the Tigers are sitting in top spot with an 11-2 record.

Swans are looking to bounce back from last Saturday’s 15-point loss to Subiaco with Claremont coming into the game after beating Peel Thunder by 40 points last week on the back of beating East Fremantle by 163 points and Subiaco by 150 since their Round 14 bye.
