Round 18 Men’s Match Report v Claremont
Swan Districts did finish strongly with five goals in the last quarter against Claremont at Revo Fitness Stadium on Saturday but it wasn’t enough to stop the Tigers scoring the 38-point win.
Swan Districts didn’t manage to kick a goal in the first half against the second placed Claremont but did manage five goals to one in the fourth quarter.
Claremont still went on to score the 13.6 (84) to 6.10 (46) victory at Revo Fitness Stadium with Swan Districts now holding a 5-11 record for the season with games against West Coast and Peel Thunder to finish.
Leigh Kohlmann and Jiah Reidy kicked two goals apiece for Swan Districts against the Tigers.
Captain Jesse Turner racked up another 33 possessions for the Swans with Josh Cipro also having 27 disposals, Jye Chalcraft 27, Max Chipper 18, Aidan Clarke 18, Ayden Cartwright 15, Bryce Watson 15 and Nathan Blakely 15 to go with 18 hit outs and five tackles in the ruck.
Claremont did dominate the first quarter with five goals and holding Swan Districts scoreless on the way to leading by 34 points at quarter-time.
Swans then managed two behinds in the second quarter but Claremont added another two goals to be leading by 46 points at half-time.
Claremont also kicked the first two goals of the third quarter to open up a 54-point lead before Swan Districts got on the board courtesy of Leigh Kohlmann at the 20-minute mark.
The Tigers still managed to open up a 66-point lead by three quarter-time before Swans did start the fourth quarter with a goal to Jiah Reidy.
The Swans added another four goals in the final term thanks to Otis Harvey, Jye Chalcraft, Kohlmann and another to Reidy to cut the final margin for Claremont to 38 points.
The colts contest got the day’s action underway on Saturday morning at Revo Fitness Stadium with Claremont ending up holding out the fast finishing Swan Districts for the 6.13 (49) to 6.4 (40) victory.
The loss does see Swan Districts slip outside of the top four in the colts now sitting with an 8-7 record and with just one game to go over the last two weeks with the bye to come this weekend before playing Peel Thunder in Mandurah in the last round.
Claremont kept Swan Districts scoreless in the opening quarter to lead by 14 points at quarter-time before Swans did manage two goals in the second term but it was still the Tigers leading by 24 points at half-time.
It was a goal apiece in the third quarter with Claremont leading by 28 points at three quarter-time but Swan Districts then did come storming home with the only three goals on the final stanza to fall nine points short.
Levi Calcott kicked two goals for Swan Districts while Blake Kelly racked up 27 possessions, Soren Feast 21, Leon Kickett 21, Cooper Rullo 16 and Jaxon Ozanne 15.
Then in the reserves match up at Revo Fitness Stadium, Claremont continued their dominant form by beating Swan Districts 10.13 (73) to 4.2 (26) to remain clear in top spot.
The Swans remain in fourth position in the reserves with an 8-7 record and with two rounds to go, they are two games and percentage clear of the fifth placed East Perth so are on track to play finals in 2025.
The goals for Swan Districts were kicked by Luke Taylor, Ned Reiger, Lewis Zolnier-Owens and Luke Cotellessa.
Connor Blakely amassed 27 disposals for the Swans, Jacob Coniglio 23, Taylor 22, Cotellessa 19, Colby McDonald 16, Luke Kelly 13 and Chayse Martinson 13 while Troy Yukich had 56 hit outs in the ruck.
