Round 16 Women’s Preview v Peel Thunder
Swan Districts can take a giant step closer to at least hosting a home final this WAFL Women’s season when they play host to Peel Thunder this Saturday afternoon.
There is just three rounds left in the WAFL Women’s season with Swan Districts currently occupying third position on the back of knocking off South Fremantle in a thriller last Sunday.
Swans are now sitting a game clear in that third position as a result and will stay there if they keep winning, and a top two finish isn’t even out of the question if they are able to do that as well.
Swan Districts takes on Peel this Saturday at Steel Blue Oval with the game getting underway at 2:10pm with the black-and-whites on the hunt for a third straight victory.
The win last Sunday against the Bulldogs was a signal that Swans are genuine contenders this WAFL Women’s season considering South Fremantle were fresh off handing both Subiaco and Claremont their first defeats of the 2025 season.
Now Swans take on a Peel team out of finals contention with a 3-11 record and coming off a 23-point loss last week at Lathlain to Perth.
The two teams last met back in Round 4 in Mandurah which saw them play out a tight affair with Swan Districts ending up scoring the 5.7 (37) to 4.6 (30) victory.
Swan Districts is coming off that win against South Fremantle and will be trying to back it up with Naomi Baker, Madison Fisher, Demi Liddle, Karri Parnham and Sienna Pollard all added to the squad.
Going out from the team that will take on Peel at home on Saturday is Meg Carron.
Peel lost to Perth last week and from that team, Jade Hall, Tahlia Head and Caitlin Shales come into the side.
Going out for the Thunder are Charlie Fletcher, Cassie Davidson and Heidi Ireland.
It’s the Rogers Cup contest between Swan Districts and Peel that will get proceedings underway on Saturday afternoon at Steel Blue Oval starting at 12:05pm.
Swans are fresh off the 24-point win in the Rogers Cup also on home turf last Sunday against South Fremantle which sees them now sitting in third position on the ladder with nine wins, three losses and a draw on the season.
Swan Districts now takes on a Thunder team sitting in second last place in the Rogers Cup with a 3-10 record along with also having a draw.
Swans are currently six points behind the second placed East Fremantle and 10 points clear of the fourth placed Claremont so a win on Saturday and they will be further stable in third place, and remain an outside chance of a top two finish.
Coming off the win last week for Swans against South Fremantle, Asha Ascoli, Remy Davis, Makaela Grau, Micaela Henry, Zoe Tickner, Grace Vale and Madeline Wright all come into the squad.
Going out for the black-and-whites are Keira Fawcett, Eloise Moore and Reaghan Lynch.
Peel is also fresh off a win against Perth last Sunday and from that team, Heidi Ireland, Matilda Munro, Evelyn Schluter, Ruby Wilson, Zaide Wilson and Amelia Young come into the squad.
Going out for the Thunder are Tahlia Head, Ava O’Neill, Piper Wadley, Pcela Sorensen, Alicia Van Duren and Ava Cristodero.
