Round 16 WAFL Women’s Match Report v Peel Thunder

Swan Districts delivered a dominant WAFL Women’s performance at Steel Blue Oval on Saturday beating Peel Thunder by 68 points to further consolidate third position.

Swans were back home at Steel Blue Oval on Saturday afternoon in Round 16 of the WAFL Women’s season looking for another win to stay solid in that third position, but to also continue to put pressure on the top two teams.

In the end Swan Districts delivered an emphatic performance with the only eight goals of the first half on the way to the eventual 12.10 (82) to 2.2 (14) victory against Peel.

The win improves Swans to a 10-4 record on the season to be six points behind the top two teams Subiaco and Claremont, but a game and percentage clear of the fourth ranked East Fremantle.

Taylah Edwards kicked another three goals in the win for Swan Districts as did Summer Yarran with Kayley King also kicking two to go with 16 possessions and four tackles.

Jaime Henry continued her brilliant midfield form with another 37 possessions while Summer Ajduk gathered 23 disposals, Naomi Baker 19, Luka Davis 19, Adi Griffith 16, Indiana West 16 and Lauren Quaife 10 to go with 32 hit outs and four tackles in the ruck.

Swan Districts made the perfect start to the WAFL Women’s clash with a goal after three minutes to Kayley King before she added a second just six minutes later.

Makaela Grau then added another and then Jaime Henry kicked Swans’ fourth goal of the opening term to be leading by 23 points by quarter-time already.

It was then more of the same in the second quarter starting with a goal to Taylah Edwards after four minutes to push the lead out to 29 points.

Summer Yarran kicked another soon after with Swan Districts then also getting goals from Emily McGuire and Emma Nanut to close out the first half to be leading by 49 points by holding Peel to just the two behinds.

It took less than two minutes for Swan Districts to make the perfect start to the second half with another goal to Edwards. It took another 10 minutes before Swans added another goal thanks to Yarran, who quickly added her third of the game and lead was out to 69 points.

Peel did close the third quarter with their first goal of the game and also added a second to start the final term, but Swan Districts kicked the last one of the contest through Edwards to secure the eventual 68-point victory.

The Rogers Cup contest got the action underway on Saturday afternoon at Steel Blue Oval and Swan Districts came away with the emphatic 10.8 (68) to 3.5 (23) victory against Peel Thunder.

The result leaves Swan Districts sitting in third position on the Rogers Cup ladder with a 10-3 record with a draw to now be cemented in that spot six points out of second but 10 points clear of the fourth placed Claremont.

It was Peel that made the better of the start to the game with three goals to two in the opening quarter, but the Thunder wouldn’t kick another goal for the rest of the contest.

Swan Districts responded with the only three goals of the second quarter to go into half-time leading by 15 points before another two goals to three behinds in the third term saw that lead grow to 26 points.

Swans kicked another three goals in the last quarter as well to secure the eventual 45-point victory on home turf against the Thunder.

Madison Fisher ended up kicking four goals in the win for Swan Districts with Olivia Rasenberg adding two while Shanae Morisey, Nahala Hall, Sienna Pollard and Charli Grau all kicked a goal apiece for the black-and-whites.
