Round 13 WAFL Women’s Match Report
Swan Districts tested Claremont more than any other team this WAFL Women’s season aside from Subiaco to be leading still at half-time before the Tigers ended up scoring the narrow nine-point victory.
Swans headed to Revo Fitness Stadium on Saturday afternoon to take on the league-leading Tigers in Round 13 of the WAFL Women’s season with Claremont the last remaining undefeated team in 2025.
Swans were also fresh off the bye and a 33-point win against West Perth to be sitting in third place on the way to then kicking the first two goals of the game, and to be leading by eight points at quarter-time, and by three at half-time.
Claremont did end up kicking three goals to one in the second half for the 6.2 (38) to 4.5 (29) win but there was a lot to be encouraged by in the performance from Swan Districts.
Kayley King finished up kicking three goals in the game for Swan Districts with Taylah Edwards kicking the other major.
Jaime Henry worked tirelessly to end up with 25 possessions and 17 tackles for the black-and-whites with Indiana West gathering 22 disposals, Summer Yarran 20, Luka Davis 14, Emma Humphries 14 and Lauren Quaife 13 to go with 46 hit outs and five tackles in the ruck.
Swan Districts made the perfect start against the undefeated Tigers with the game’s first goal inside two minutes thanks to Kayley King.
King added a second goal soon after with Swans having the first two scores of the contest and even though Claremont did kick a goal before quarter-time, Swan Districts were still on top by eight points at the first break.
Swans also added a third goal of the game in the second quarter thanks to Taylah Edwards to maintain a three-point advantage by the half-time break.
Swan Districts did only manage the one goal in the second half which was kicked by King early in the fourth quarter, but Claremont kicked the next two goals to secure the eventual nine-point victory on their home ground to remain undefeated.
The Saturday afternoon action at Revo Fitness Stadium on Saturday got underway with Swan Districts delivering the impressive 8.5 (53) to 3.2 (20) Rogers Cup victory.
It was a goal apiece in the first quarter before Swans turned it on in the second term with four goals to one to head into the half-time break leading by 19 points.
It was then another goal each in the third term and Swan Districts confirmed the strong win with another two goals to nil in the final stanza on the way to the 33-point victory.
What the win does is improve Swans to being clear in third position on the Rogers Cup ladder with seven wins, three losses and a draw.
Keira Fawcett and Rakaya Ryder kicked two goals each in the win for the black-and-whites with a goal apiece to Makaela Grau, Olivia Rasenberg, Leah Howard and Madison Fisher.
