Swan Districts Football Club will induct six new members into the club’s prestigious Hall of Fame in 2025. This will be the club’s fifth induction following those in 2016, 2019, 2021 and 2023.

To date there have only been 44 members inducted into the Swan Districts Football Club Hall of Fame and only three have been elevated to Immortals. These include: Bill Walker (Immortal), John Cooper (Immortal), John Todd (Immortal), Haydn Bunton , Robert Bryant, Ted Holdsworth, Lal Mosey, Tom Moiler, John (Jack) Murray, Joe Pearce, Duggan Anderson, Tim Barker, Ron Jose, Joe Lawson, Keith Slater, Stan Moses, Ken Bagley, Fred Castledine, Tony Nesbit, Stan Nowotny, Ron Boucher, Keith Narkle, Garry Sidebottom, Don Langsford, Don Holmes, Travis Edmonds, Shane Beros, Percy Bright, George Krepp, Peter Manning, Phil Narkle, Tom Mullooly, Bob Beecroft, Joel Cornelius, Colin Maynard, Dave Sidebottom, Sydney Sinclair, John Turnbull, Leon Baker, Eric Gorman, Richard DA McDonald, Simon Beasley, Brian Gray and Tallan Ames.
The club’s Hall of Fame Selection Committee consists of club stalwarts and historians who spend considerable time carefully reviewing candidates for selection into this highly respected cohort.
Mike Richardson will be one of six people being inducted into the Swan Districts Football Club’s Hall of Fame in 2025.
Richardson fits into the Champion category of the Hall of Fame induction designed to include those Swans players and coaches who were recruited into other leagues, including the VFL, AFL and SANFL.
To reach the Hall of Fame level they need to have played or coached with distinction in these competitions and maintained a connection with the club.
Richardson was a goalkicking rover and forward who returned to Swans for three seasons after a very successful VFL/AFL career finished.
He played 8 seasons with Swans in two stints between 1978 – 1982 and 1991 – 1993 and played 144 games kicking 220 goals.
He was the club’s leading goalkicker in 1982 (75 goals), a Premiership player in 1982, and was selected in the club’s Team of the Century.
Richardson was recruited to Collingwood in 1983 and went on to play 8 seasons in the AFL with 3 clubs totalling 307 games and kicking 400 goals.
This includes 60 games and 117 goals for Collingwood (1983 – 1986), 15 games and 14 goals for Essendon (1986) and 81 games and 43 goals for Brisbane (1987 – 1990).
Richardson also played 10 matches for Western Australia (1980 – 1985, 1988 and 1992) and was selected in the All Australian team in 1983.
While he played a variety of roles, it was as a half-forward where he truly shone and the fact he kicked seven goals on the same day he racked up 39 possessions in 1983 for Collingwood against St Kilda says all you need to know about what he was capable of.
Richardson’s career might not quite be appreciated for just how outstanding of a career he had and what a true match-winner he truly was.
The remaining five Hall of Fame 2025 inductees will be announced over the next couple of months.
These will be officially recognised at the Swan Districts Hall of Fame Induction evening to be held at the club on Saturday 26th July 2025. It’s a wonderful opportunity for supporters to meet Swans royalty in person.
