Round 9 WAFLW Preview v Claremont

Swan Districts will attempt to return to the WAFLW winner's list and the top four by becoming the first team of 2024 to beat Claremont at Steel Blue Oval on Saturday afternoon.

Swan Districts will be back at home to Steel Blue Oval to host the undefeated Claremont with the chance to become the first team to beat the Tigers in 2024.

Swans come into the Round 9 match up with a 3-4 record on the season and looking to bounce back from losing the past two games against South Fremantle and West Perth.

Those two teams are the sides directly above Swan Districts on the WAFLW ladder now with the black-and-whites having slipped to fifth position and looking to beat Claremont to potentially break back into the top four, or to at least stay right in touch for a spot.

Last time the two teams played was back in the opening round of this season at Claremont's Revo Fitness Stadium.

It proved to be a tight contest too even with Claremont ending up beating Swan Districts 7.5 (47) to 4.7 (31).

As it turns out, that has been one of the more competitive performances any team has put up against the undefeated Claremont this season with the goals for Swans coming from Courtney Zappara, Indiana West, Hope Ugle-Hayward and Emily McGuire.

Carys D'Addario picked up 18 possessions in that game for the black-and-whites, Emma Humphries 16, Naomi Baker 14, Ugley-Hayward 13 and Lily Paterson 13.

Swan Districts has now lost its past two WAFLW matches and following last week's 57-point loss at the hands of West Perth, Sienna Gerardi, Emma Nanut, Ava Stewart and Courtney Zappara come into the line-up for Swans.

Going out of the Swan Districts team are Hope Ugle-Hayward, Kelly Polla, Hannah Plummer and Demi Liddle.

Claremont made it seven straight wins to open 2024 beating Peel Thunder by 64 points last week with Bec Anderson, Eva Campo and Lauren Hutton coming into the side to take on Swan Districts.

Going out for the Tigers are Abby Maynard, Claire Ortlepp and Amalie Moe.

On Saturday morning, Swan Districts' Rogers Cup team will also be playing Claremont with the game to get underway at 10.05am.

Coming into the Round 9 contest and Swans currently sit in fourth position on the Rogers Cup ladder with a 4-3 record to be a game behind the third placed Subiaco and game ahead of the fifth ranked South Fremantle.

They come up against a Claremont team sitting in seventh position after the opening seven games with a 2-5 record.

Swans are looking to bounce back from last week's loss to West Perth also at Steel Blue Oval and from that team, Jorja Byrne, Millie Edgar, Beelinda Gallagher, Jorjina Kean, Zuzanna Murawska and Alyssa Tremlett are all into the side.

Going out for Swan Districts are Ava Stewart, Summer Ajduk, Riley Hall, Ruby Whitehouse, Brianna North and Sienna Gerardi.

Meanwhile, Claremont lost to Peel Thunder by 10 points last Sunday and from that team, Nevada Croft, Jess Freame, Angel King and Sienna McLaren come into the team for the Tigers.

Going out for Claremont are Esther Cooney, Bec Anderson and Annalise Fielding.
