Courtney Zappara kicked five goals and that was just the start of the starring performances as Swan Districts beat Peel Thunder by 63 points on Sunday to open their account for the season.

Swans were making their first appearance of the 2024 WAFLW season at Steel Blue Oval in the Round 2 match up with Peel on Sunday on the back of a competitive showing against Claremont to open the new campaign under new coach Ben Bowness.

Swan Districts were then able to dominate proceedings on Sunday against Peel at Bassendean with six goals to one in the first half, another four goals to nil in the second and to end up winning 10.13 (73) to 1.4 (10).

It was quite the day out in attack for Swan Districts forward Courtney Zappara as she kicked five goals for the afternoon from 11 kicks and four marks.

Tayla Thorn also kicked two goals in the win for Swans with the other goals courtesy of Lily Paterson, Tamzyn Beros and Teyharna Curry.

There were plenty more standout performers in the win for Swan Districts including emerging young star Carys D'Addario. She finished with 24 possessions, six tackles, five inside-50 entries and four marks.

Paterson continued her strong start to the season with another 24 disposals to go with nine marks, five inside-50 entries, three tackles and her goal.

Taylah Edwards also gathered 19 touches for the black-and-whites to go with nine inside 50s, six marks and six tackles.

Naomi Baker collected 19 possessions as well while Emma Humphries had 17 touches, Kayley King 16, Hope Ugle-Hayward 16, Demi Liddle 16 and Isabella Edgley 15.

Swan Districts was playing its first home game of the season and hunting a first win of 2024, and made the perfect start a minute into the contest with a goal through Courtney Zappara.

New recruit and former AFLW player Tayla Thorn then added another for the black-and-whites before Zappara kicked a second just before quarter-time to put the home team in front by 19 points.

That margin was soon out to 33 points nine minutes into the second quarter following goals to Swans from Lily Paterson and a third to Zappara.

Zappara added a fourth just before half-time in a stunning first half performance for Swan Districts with the lead out to 34 points by the main break.

It was the turn of Teyharna Curry to kick a goal to start the second half and then when Zappara's day out continued as she added a fifth for the afternoon, the lead for the black-and-whites grew to 48 points by three quarter-time.

Swans also managed the only two goals of the final quarter, including a second to Thorn and another to Tamzyn Beros as the home team went on to score the supremely impressive 63-point victory.

The day started on Sunday at Steel Blue Oval with the Rogers Cup match up and it was a winning beginning to proceedings for Swan Districts as well with the 8.8 (56) to 3.10 (28) triumph against Peel Thunder.

Madison Fisher produced another standout performance for Swans in the Rogers Cup win kicking four goals with Olivia Rasenberg adding two while Luka Davis and Grace Vale kicked a goal apiece.
