Swans Sign Sydney Stack
Swan Districts has signed 23-year-old ex Richmond AFL player Sydney Stack.
Stack was recruited by Richmond from Perth Football Club in 2019 and played 35 AFL games in four seasons before being delisted.
Swans are aware of the personal challenges Stack faces and believe that playing football is his best chance of creating a positive future for himself.
Swans is well known for offering second chances for many players in the past, none more so than Andrew Krakouer.
Krakouer was drafted to Richmond in 2000 and played 102 AFL games in 7 seasons before being delisted. In 2008 he was sentenced to jail and on his release signed to play the 2010 season with Swan Districts winning the Sandover Medal and helping the club win a Premiership.
Later that year he signed for Collingwood playing a further 35 AFL games in 3 seasons and now has a good career including public speaking.
“Our club has had long conversations with Sydney about the significance of joining the Swans family and how important our club values are for everyone at the club,” said Chief Executive Jeff Dennis.
“While we’re proud to provide opportunities to reset and reconnect, it cannot disrupt the club’s strong culture.”
“We’re confident the Swans family will embrace Sydney and help wherever we can.”
Stack’s been highly regarded for his ability to apply on-ball pressure, for his composure in traffic and his clean ball use as well as his physical traits of speed and acceleration.
“Sydney is an incredibly talented and dynamic young player, and we believe he will bring a wealth of skill, speed and toughness”, said Senior WAFL Coach Andrew Pruyn.
“His football IQ has him amongst an elite bracket of players.”
“Sydney's versatility is another aspect that excites us. His ability to impact the game in various positions adds valuable flexibility to our lineup, providing strategic options for our coaching staff.
Stack joins recruits Jye Chalcraft (Geelong VFL) and Nik Rokahr (Norwood) together with Jake Pasini returning from 4 years with Port Adelaide.
