Swan Districts 90th Anniversary & ANZAC Commemoration
To celebrate the club’s historic 90 year anniversary the club will re-enact its first ever game in the West Australian National Football League on 28th April 1934 against East Fremantle.
To remember this historic occasion the club has scheduled a WAFL home game this season against East Fremantle on Sunday 28th April. The Swans players will wear replica 1934 jumpers and shorts including the numbers and names of the players from 1934. These jumpers will also include the names of all 1,142 Swans League players.
In the 1934 game day footy budget, it says ‘Swan Districts, the new club, is given a hearty welcome. It will embrace the district once served by the old Midland Junction Club. Already the “Swans” have shown that they are going to be tough birds. In their scratch matches they have given surprisingly sound displays for such infants’.
A giant photo of the clubs inaugural team can be found on the front wall of the club’s main function room.
As this fixture is held over the ANZAC Day weekend the club will also continue with its important annual ANZAC Day commemoration.
“This will a ripper of a day for our club”, said President Peter Hodyl. “Acknowledging ANZAC Day has also been very important to our club. But this year we have a tremendous opportunity for our players, supporters and community to also commemorate and celebrate our club’s long and rich history”.
It promises to be a special match day with a pre-game ANZAC commemoration and the club’s Swans Play Zone in full force for the kids together with the League players giving out over 40 free footies before the game. There’ll also be competitions for cash and prizes on the oval throughout the day.
The pre-game Legends Luncheon will acknowledge both special occasions. It will commence at 12pm with bounce down being 2.30pm.
Tickets to the luncheon can be purchased online by clicking HERE or by contacting the club on (08) 9279 8700 to book over the phone.
