Swans United in Diversity
Swan Districts Football Club has scheduled its first WAFL Pride Game on Saturday 26 August against Peel Football Club at Steel Blue Oval Bassendean.
This home game will launch another club inclusion strategy helping create a safe and secure environment where everyone can feel they belong.
The club’s purpose is to empower communities and individuals to create better futures. Our vision is to be high performing and sustainable club delivering positive social impact in communities, families, and for individuals.
To achieve this, it’s important the club continues to live its value Everyone Matters.
“Sport has always played an important role in social change. And we’re acutely aware of our club’s role in helping create a world where everyone belongs”, says club President Peter Hodyl.
“Everyone is welcome at Swans regardless of race, gender, culture, ability/disability, age, or sexual orientation or identity”.
“We want to help all our people be the best they can be. To achieve this it’s important we create a place where they can be comfortable with who they are. Where they can feel welcome and supported”.
The Town of Bassendean will partner the club in the 2023 Swans Pride Game which will include an inclusion education session 7pm Tuesday 22 August including club players, staff and volunteers, and the local community. There will also be a pre-game luncheon panel discussing the benefits of inclusion in sport.
The Swans Pride game will become an annual event in addition to the club’s long supported Reconciliation Week, NAIDOC and Count Me In Games. In 2024, the Pride game will extend to also include a Swans WAFLW home game.
