Chelsea Randall the Swan Districts Ball Legend for 2023
With female football continuing to grow across the country and remaining a key component of the Swan Districts Football Club, it became a natural decision to make Chelsea Randall the Ball Legend for the black-and-whites in 2023.
All the Burley footballs used by Swan Districts during the 2023 WAFLW season will be adorned by the face of Randall and it's a well-deserved honour for the current Adelaide Crows captain and three-time AFLW premiership player.
Over the past decade starting off in the initial exhibition matches and then joining the Crows from the start of AFLW, Randall has cemented herself as one of the finest players and leaders across the country, and it all started for her at Swan Districts.
Randall started playing senior football in the then WAWFL competition for Swan Districts back in 2008 and would go on to win the league fairest and best award twice.
She would then end up playing for Melbourne in the exhibition matches against the Western Bulldogs on a national stage until the AFLW competition was created in 2017 and was selected by the Adelaide Crows as a marquee player.
Ever since the accolades have continued to rack up for the now 31-year-old and she is a three-time AFLW premiership player, is a four-time All-Australian and three times being named the AFLW Most Courageous Player.
She has been just as universally respected for her work off the field as much as on it as well, and it only makes sense that the Swan Districts Football Club honours her in 2023 by making her the Ball Legend for the season.
Randall has never forgotten where it all started for her and to now have been able to achieve what she has, and be the role model she is has surpassed all expectations she could have had a decade ago.
"I like to be reminded of all the sacrifices that I’ve made to move from Western Australia, leaving my family and friends behind for the last six years, all the funerals and weddings and birthdays that I’ve missed," Randall reflected.
"It just reminds me of what I am doing and how proud I am. I guess we don’t stop and actually just celebrate ourselves, and we’re normally quick to criticise ourselves, so for me it’s important to acknowledge those things that we have done right and be proud of them."
