Eliza Gelmi and Demi Liddle Return as Co-Captains For the 2025 Season

Preparation for the WAFL Women’s 2025 season is running full speed ahead, and Eliza Gelmi and Demi Liddle have been reappointed co-captains for the 2025 season. Bringing their experience from last year into the upcoming season, the co-captains know they can lead the WAFLW League team to success.
The senior leadership team has also been announced for this season including Kayley King, Naomi Baker, Jaime Henry and Hope Ugle-Hayward joining Gelmi and Liddle in 2025.
Gelmi and Liddle continue to bring a wealth of experience to the team, with a combined 329 career games. Gelmi’s talent has been recognised when she represented WA in the 2024 WAFL state team. She was also recently awarded Swans Life Membership.
Both co-captains are extremely excited to be leading the charge into 2025.
“Over the past few years, we have been building something really special and I'm excited to see that coming together this year,” said Demi.
“Sharing this role with Eliza is seamless. We share a strong vision and goal for the group and will continue working together to achieve that.”
Eliza Gelmi shared Demi’s optimism. “There’s something special about this group, and I can’t wait to see what we achieve together as a team.”
“I couldn’t imagine this role without Demi. We have such a great connection and complement each other well.”
Looking to the future the co-captains aim to bring connection, growth and transparency to the forefront of the team.
“We aim to empower each person to be their best,” said Demi.
“If everyone can continue to build and grow together, we will be in an exciting position for the years to come.”
“We strive to encourage open communication, recognise efforts, and support development,” said Eliza.
“We want to create a space where everyone feels capable and motivated to perform at their best as well as a team.
“We really want the whole team to have pride in what we’re working towards.
“On a broader scale, we hope to develop not only as players but also as individuals and support each other’s growth both on and off the field.”
Both Liddle and Gelmi have their eyes on a Premiership this season. Having finished in the top 4 in 2024, the co-captains are determined to bring the flag home in 2025.
"We have the skills and the right people in our team to achieve the premiership dream we have been chasing," said Demi.
2025 will bring a different captaincy format to the Roger’s Cup. Each week the coaches and team will decide a captain of the round, aiming to recognise talent, and give opportunity to develop leadership skills within the young team. Results from this structure will aid in captaincy and leadership decisions into the future.
The 2025 WAFL Women’s season kicks off at 7.20pm Friday 29th March at Sullivan Logistics Stadium against East Perth.
The first home WAFL Women’s game at Steel Blue Oval is Round 3 on Saturday 12 April at 2.10pm.
