Round 9 Women’s Preview v Claremont
Swan Districts are the hottest team in the WAFL Women’s competition right now as they prepare to face the reigning premiers Claremont on Saturday afternoon at Steel Blue Oval.
Swan Districts have now won five straight matches to be on the biggest current winning run in the WAFL Women’s competition as they prepare to host the second placed Claremont on Saturday in Round 9 action.
The WAFL Women’s league clash will get underway at 12:20pm at Steel Blue Oval following on from the Rogers Cup match up that will begin at 8:45am.
Swan Districts continue their impressive form this WAFL Women’s season with a 14-point win last Sunday against South Fremantle at Fremantle Community Bank Oval.
That backed up wins against Perth, East Fremantle, West Perth and Peel Thunder with Swans now on a five-match winning streak to be sitting in third position on the WAFL Women’s ladder with a 6-1 record.
That has Swans just half a game behind the top two teams, Subiaco and Claremont, so a win over the Tigers on Saturday will at least take them into second place and even if the Lions suffer an upset loss to Perth, then they could end the round sitting in top position.
Saturday’s game will be the first time the two teams have met since Round 9 last year when Swan Districts did score the 25-point win against Claremont at Steel Blue Oval even with the Tigers on the way to winning the premiership by the end of the season.
While there are no outs at this stage to the Swan Districts team that beat South Fremantle last week, Tyla Fitzgerald, Adi Griffith, Kayla May and Emma Nanut have all been added to the squad.
Claremont are coming off a win against East Perth and also have just added Laura Cinanni, Amy Evans, May Nicholson and Kate Orme to their squad for Saturday’s clash with Swans.
The Rogers Cup match up will begin proceedings at Steel Blue Oval on Saturday morning with Swan Districts also playing host to Claremont.
Swans come into Round 9 sitting in second position on the Rogers Cup ladder with a 4-2 record while Claremont is knocking on the door in fifth place at 4-3 setting the stage for a tantalising match up.
Swan Districts are fresh off a draw in a tough slog last Sunday against South Fremantle while Claremont scored a thrilling seven-point win against East Perth on the Saturday.
Shylah Barker, Rheanae Beagley, Indy Bird, Keira Fawcett, Leah Howard, Kirrali Richmond and Rakaya Ryder all come into the Swan Districts squad for the Saturday morning game.
Going out for the black-and-whites are Gemma Smith, Charli Grau and Layla Hagerstrom.
India Bonadeo, Lucy Gilbey, Sienna McLaren, Gemma Musk, Hannah Seaborn, Indiana Slocombe and Pippa Wilson come into the squad for Claremont.
Going out for the Tigers are Lucy Short, Annabella Thompson and Lili-May Rowbotham.
