Round 9 WAFL Women’s Match Report

Swan Districts couldn’t quite continue their winning run in the WAFL Women’s competition on Saturday with a loss to Claremont but they remain in third position following nine rounds.

Swan Districts came into the Saturday match up in Round 9 of the WAFL Women’s season on a five-game winning streak as they played host to the second placed reigning premiers Claremont.

The match up took place on Saturday afternoon at Steel Blue Oval and after Claremont were leading with just two goals to one in the first half, the Tigers kicked six goals to one in the second to beat Swan Districts 8.3 (51) to 2.6 (18).

Despite the loss, Swans remain in third position on the WAFL Women’s ladder with a 6-2 record to be a game and-a-half behind the top two teams Subiaco and Claremont, but still a game clear of the fourth placed West Perth.

The goals in the game kicked by Swan Districts came from Indiana West and Emily McGuire.

Carys D’Addario continued her stunning form in the midfield for Swans by racking up another 24 possessions to go with nine inside-50 entries and four tackles.

Jaime Henry also collected 23 touches and laid 11 tackles with Sienna Gerardi ending up with 15 disposals, Indiana West 13, Naomi Baker 11 (10 tackles), Luka Davis 11, Ava Stewart 10 and Tamzyn Beros 10 (11 hit outs, five tackles).

Swan Districts were looking to continue their winning form and to break into the top two, and even though Claremont kicked the first goal of the game, the home team was able to respond just before quarter-time courtesy of Emily McGuire.

Swans then managed just the one behind for the second quarter with the Tigers adding a second goal and that saw the visitors head into the half-time break leading by seven points.

Claremont then pulled away further with the only three goals of the third quarter in what were the only three scores for either team for that term leading to the Tigers opening up a 25-point advantage by three quarter-time.

Swan Districts did manage a second goal of the game in the last quarter thanks to Indiana West, but it couldn’t stop Claremont going on to score the 33-point victory.

Swan Districts started the day with a Rogers Cup match up on Saturday morning at Steel Blue Oval and came away with the 5.6 (36) to 3.6 (24) victory against Claremont.

With the win, Swans improve to second position on the WAFLW ladder having so far had five wins, two losses and a draw across the opening nine rounds of the 2025 season.

Swans kicked the only goal of the first quarter in the contest on Saturday morning before the Tigers managed two goals to one in the second term and that saw scores all level by the half-time break.

Swan Districts then pulled away slightly again with two goals to one in the third term, and then kicked the only goal of the final stanza on the way to the 12-point victory on home turf.

Keira Fawcett kicked four of the five goals for Swans in the win with the other goal courtesy of Eloise Moore with Shanae Morisey, Karri Parnham, Remy Davis and Addison Hall other strong performers.
