Round 8 Women’s Preview v South Fremantle
Swan Districts heads to Fremantle Community Bank Oval on Sunday looking to make it five consecutive WAFL Women’s victories and to continue to put pressure on the top two teams in the competition.
With the top two teams, Subiaco and Claremont, playing out a draw last weekend it means that Swan Districts remains just half a game behind both of them and the chance to enter the top two should results fall their way in Round 8 of the WAFL Women’s season.
Swans head to Fremantle Community Bank Oval to play South Fremantle on Sunday with the game beginning at 12:10pm and with the black-and-whites attempting to make it five straight victories on the season.
Swan Districts currently sits in third position on the WAFL Women’s ladder with a 5-1 record to be just ahead of the fourth placed South Fremantle who they will be facing on Sunday afternoon.
Swans made it four straight wins by beating Perth by 19 points last Saturday at Steel Blue Oval which backed up their previous wins this season against East Fremantle, West Perth and Peel Thunder since a Round 3 loss at the hands of the undefeated Subiaco.
Swan Districts have now played South Fremantle nine times in the WAFL Women’s competition as well since the Bulldogs joined in the Covid shortened season of 2020.
Swans would go on to win the first five meetings between the two teams before the Bulldogs won the next three, and then Swan Districts won the most recent clash in Round 12 last year when they were on the way to a finals appearance.
The Swan Districts Rogers Cup team will start the day on Sunday morning at Fremantle Community Bank Oval against South Fremantle with the chance to further consolidate second position with the game getting underway at 10:05am.
Swans currently sit in second position and the Bulldogs third with only percentage separating the two teams meaning that the winner of the match up on Sunday morning will finish Round 8 clear in second spot, and remain in striking distance of the league-leading West Perth.
Both teams have won four of six games so far this season in the Rogers Cup with Swan Districts scoring a thumping 62-point win last Saturday against Perth at Steel Blue Oval.
In that win, Kiara Fawcett kicked three goals and two each went to Olivia Rasenberg and Madison Fisher while Karri Parnham, Makaela Grau, Jaya Abbott and Eloise Moore were outstanding contributors.
Swan Districts will now look to keep that momentum going in the Rogers Cup to further secure a top two spot ahead of a clash with Claremont back home next Saturday.
