Round 8 Men’s Match Report v West Coast
Swan Districts made it a perfect 11 from 11 in their games in the WAFL Men’s competition against the West Coast Eagles as they scored the 27-point win at Steel Blue Oval on Saturday.
Swans were taking on the Eagles for the 11th time in the competition dating back to 2019 and all of those encounters have been held at Steel Blue Oval which remained the case for Saturday’s match up.
West Coast had the breeze behind them in the first quarter to lead by 14 points at quarter-time but Swan Districts took charge from there to outscore the Eagles 10 goals to four the rest of the afternoon.
That saw Swans secure the eventual 11.10 (76) to 7.7 (49) victory to celebrate the WA Day long weekend which improves the black-and-whites to a 2-6 record this season and to a perfect 11-0 forever against the Eagles in the WAFL Men’s competition.
Swan Districts spearhead Leigh Kohlmann was back in the line-up and kicked three goals in the win from his seven kicks and five marks to now have kicked 16 goals in his six appearances for 2025 on the back 53 in 17 matches in 2024.
Brad Lynch was also back into the league team for Swans and he kicked two goals while Jye Chalcraft booted two to go with the 27 possessions he racked up through the midfield.
Swans captain Jesse Turner then also amassed 37 possessions on the afternoon with Aidan Clarke picking up 29 disposals, Jackson McLachlan 29, Luke Cotellessa 21, Brenton Hilton 20, Bryce Watson 16 and Jehb O’Donohue 15 to go with eight tackles and six marks.
West Coast did get off to a strong start with three goals to one in the opening quarter with the lone goal for the black-and-whites coming courtesy of Leigh Kohlmann at the 12-minute mark.
Swans were going to the scoring end in the second term at Steel Blue Oval and were able to start taking advantage with a goal to Kohlmann at the eight-minute mark after a couple of behinds prior to that.
Jiah Reidy then added another soon after and Swans kept that momentum going with Brad Lynch and Luke Cotellessa also kicking truly which saw the home team head into the half-time break with the five-point advantage.
Swan Districts then started the second half strongly with early goals to Kohlmann and Luke Kelly which led to them opening up a 19-point lead which remained at 14 by three quarter-time.
Swans were then also going to the scoring end in the last term and took full advantage with three goals to one as Jesse Turner, Jye Chalcraft and Brad Lynch all kicked truly to secure the eventual 27-point victory.
