Round 2 Men’s Match Report v East Perth

Swan Districts did fire up to kick five goals in the third quarter on Saturday against East Perth at Sullivan Logistics Stadium, but only managed one more outside of that, with the Royals winning by 55 points.

Swans were looking for their first win of the 2025 WAFL Men’s season looking to bounce back from a first up loss to West Perth at Steel Blue Oval.

East Perth are coming off playing in last year’s grand final and then beating Subiaco in the opening round of the season, and the Royals kicked six goals to one in the first half.

Swan Districts managed five goals in the third quarter, but it wasn’t to be with the Royals ending up winning 15.7 (97) to 6.6 (42).

Leigh Kohlmann kicked another two goals from three kicks for Swan Districts with singles from Ben Hewett, Jiah Reidy, Evan Smith and Jye Chalcraft.

Swans captain Jesse Turner had another big afternoon made up of 36 possessions to go with eight marks, three tackles and three inside-50 entries.

Chalcraft also gathered 35 disposals, Connor Blakely 31, Bryce Watson 26, Josh Cipro 25, Jarvis Pina 19 and Brad Lynch 17.

There was just one goal apiece kicked in the first quarter with East Perth first on the board through Sebit Kuek before Swans responded courtesy of Leigh Kohlmann with scores all square by quarter-time.

It only took the Royals 30 seconds to kick the first goal of the second quarter and that was the first of five they managed leading into half-time with Swans only managing the one-point for East Perth to be on top by 30 points at the main break.

Swan Districts did hit back with two quick goals through Jiah Reidy and Kohlmann to start the second half, and Ben Hewett, Jye Chalcraft and Evan Smith all chipped in too before three quarter-time to cut the East Perth lead to 16 points.

However, the Royals took control once more with the only six goals of the last quarter on the way to the 55-point win.

The Colts contest was first up on Saturday morning at Sullivan Logistics Stadium with East Perth beating Swan Districts 10.13 (73) to 7.12 (54).

Swans were playing catch up the entire game: down by nine points at quarter-time, by eight at half-time and then seven at three quarter-time before the Royals completed the 19-point victory on their home deck.

Liam Hrabar kicked two goals for Swan Districts while also picking up 33 possessions to go with seven inside 50s, five tackles and four marks.

Soren Feast also gathered 22 disposals for the black-and-whites, Leo Steed 22, Blake Kelly 21, Tylan Williams 19 and Leon Kickett 17.

That led into the Reserves clash. Swan Districts kicked five goals in the third quarter to set up the eventual 11.6 (72) to 9.9 (63) victory.

Lewis Zolnier-Owens kicked three goals from nine kicks with nine marks for Swans with Max York chipping in with two while Otis Harvey collected 27 possessions, Max Chipper 25, Ayden Cartwright 25, Brenton Hilton 25, Mitch Roche 25 and NBL1 West basketballer-turned-footballer Fletcher Klasztorny 14 to go with 23 hit outs.
