Round 17 Men’s Preview v Subiaco
Swan Districts returns to WAFL Men’s action following the bye this Saturday afternoon to host Subiaco at Steel Blue Oval in Round 17 of the 2025 season.
The Swans and Lions might be out of the finals race for 2025 coming into Saturday’s clash at Bassendean which gets underway at 2:30pm, but that doesn’t mean there’s not still plenty to play for.
Swan Districts had the bye last weekend and prior to that had lost their past two matches to finals bound teams Perth and South Fremantle only by a combined 26 points in two strongly competitive performances.
Prior to that and Swans had a strong 11-point win against West Perth as they now play host to a Subiaco team with just three wins for the season and having lost their past three matches against South Fremantle, Claremont and West Coast by a combined 178 points.
The last time the two teams met was back in Round 6 of this season which saw Swan Districts deliver a dominant performance to end up beating Subiaco by 75 points.
On that day, Seb Bright kicked four goals for Swans with Jehb O’Donohue, Ben Hewett, Jiah Reidy and Otis Harvey all kicking two goals while Aidan Clarke racked up 39 possessions, Jye Chalcraft 39, Jesse Turner 31, Jarvis Pina 26 and Jackson McLachlan 21.
There are no outs in the Swan Districts team at this point from the team that lost to Perth two weeks ago with Josh Cipro, Jacob Coniglio, Chase Loftus and Brad Lynch all added to the squad.
Subiaco lost to South Fremantle last week and from that team, Ryan Borchet, Greg Clark, Kody Eaton and Xavier Hickey come into the side to take on Swan Districts at Steel Blue Oval.
Going out for the Lions are Connor Faraone, Henry Berenger, Richard Bartlett and ruckman Jedd Edwards.
The colts contest between Swan Districts and Subiaco opens up the day’s proceedings on Saturday at Steel Blue Oval with the game beginning at 9:15am.
Swans come into the Round 17 clash in fourth position on the colts ladder with a 7-6 record but needing a win to stay there with Claremont in fifth place and with a superior percentage.
Swan Districts take on a Subiaco team in seventh place in the colts with a 5-7 record but still a chance to stay in finals contention themselves with a win on Saturday morning.
Swans had the bye last weekend and prior to that in the colts had a narrow seven-point win against Perth which kept them in fourth position while Subiaco suffered a 40-point defeat at the hands of South Fremantle last Saturday at Leederville.
Last time the two teams met was back in Round 6 also at Leederville with Subiaco winning that encounter in a tight affair 11.12 (78) to 9.15 (69).
The reserves match up between Swan Districts and Subiaco at Steel Blue Oval will then get underway at 11:45am on Saturday.
Swans currently sit in fourth position on the reserves ladder with an 8-5 record to be two games clear in that spot and a win on Saturday would guarantee a finals appearance.
Subiaco are currently in sixth position and three games and percentage behind the fourth placed Swan Districts coming into the last month of the home and away season.
Prior to the bye last weekend, Swan Districts did suffer a 13-point loss in the reserves to Perth while Subiaco lost to South Fremantle by 60 points last Saturday and prior to that by 150 points in a goalless effort against Claremont.
