Round 10 WAFL Women’s Match Report

Swan Districts might have not quite been able to topple the WAFL Women’s top team, Subiaco, but do remain in third position on the ladder while the Rogers Cup had an impressive win to stay second.

Swan Districts took on Subiaco in Round 10 of the WAFL Women’s competition on Saturday at Leederville’s Sullivan Logistics Stadium with the task for the black-and-whites to topple a Lions team sitting in top spot.

Despite the loss, Swans do stay in third position on the WAFL Women’s ladder now with a 6-3 record and remaining a game clear of the fourth placed West Perth.

There was just two scores in the second quarter and they were both goals firstly to Subiaco from Chloe Shearing before Taylah Edwards responded for Swan Districts to bring the half-time deficit back to nine points.

Subiaco then had the only five scoring shots of the third quarter but they were all behinds with their lead 14 points by three quarter-time.

The Lions did push their lead out to 22 points in the fourth term with a goal to Jorja Schell before Swans responded courtesy of Emily McGuire only for Subiaco to end up securing the 21-point win to maintain their hold on top spot in the WAFL Women’s competition.

To start the morning at Sullivan Logistics Stadium, Swan Districts got off to a fast start in the Rogers Cup match up against Subiaco to set up the eventual 9.4 (58) to 4.3 (27) victory.

Swan Districts made a blistering start to the contest with four goals in the first quarter while holding Subiaco scoreless to already be leading by 25 points at quarter-time.

Swans then also kept the Lions scoreless in the second quarter while adding another two goals themselves and the advantage was out to 39 points by half-time.

Subiaco did manage two goals in each of the third and fourth quarters, but Swan Districts also kicked three more goals to secure the 31-point victory.
