Reserves Second Semi-Final Preview v Claremont
Swan Districts are now just one win away from reaching the Reserves grand final for 2025 and the first of those chances presents this Sunday against Claremont in the second semi-final.
Swans opened their finals series in the Reserves last Sunday with the win against South Fremantle in the qualifying final to set up the clash with Claremont now this Sunday at Revo Fitness Stadium.
The second semi-final match up gets underway at 11:25am on Sunday with a spot in the grand final at Optus Stadium in two weeks’ time on the line.
The loser will still earn a second chance as well by playing in a preliminary final next weekend against either South Fremantle or East Perth who will be playing this Saturday in a first semi-final.
Swan Districts opened the finals last Sunday by beating South Fremantle by 13 points in a qualifying final at The Good Grocer Park to set up the second semi-final match against Claremont.
The Tigers ended the home and away season as the minor premiers in the Reserves with a 14-2 record to be a game and percentage clear of South Fremantle who were 13-3 and then it was Swan Districts four games further back at 9-7.
The two teams played one another twice during the season with Swan Districts scoring the seven-point win at Steel Blue Oval back in Round 7 before the Tigers got one back in Round 18 at Revo Fitness Stadium with the 47-point victory.
Claremont did finish the home and away season in some remarkably dominant form including beating Subiaco by 150 points, East Fremantle by 163, Perth by 154 and East Perth by 101.
That makes it a tough task for Swan Districts to come up against this Sunday but Swan Districts forward Kristian Caporn is looking forward to the challenge as one of a host of 2023 premiership players still in the Swans line-up.
At the same time, he is fully aware of the assignment ahead of the black-and-whites against the Tigers.
“Claremont. What can you say,” Caporn said.
“You know they’re always going to put out a good quality side at all levels. So no game against them is ever going to be easy, especially with how their current form is in the reserves right now.
“But we’re confident as a team that we have the players and the mindset to head to Claremont and get the job done.”
