Preliminary Final WAFL Women’s Match Report
Swan Districts have been the form team of the WAFL Women’s competition in the back end of the 2025 season and now they have won their way into the grand final with the two-point preliminary final win over Subiaco.
It was Claremont and Subiaco in the top two positions in the WAFL Women’s competition throughout the season, but Swan Districts came together impressively late winning the last five games of the home and away season to wrap up third place.
The Swans then went on to beat East Fremantle in the first semi-final ahead of setting up a match up in Sunday’s preliminary final against Subiaco at Leederville’s Sullivan Logistics Stadium.
Swan Districts then started on fire with the only four goals of the first quarter before then holding on in a thrilling finish for the 6.4 (40) to 6.2 (38) victory.
The win means the Swans will go into this Sunday’s grand final against Claremont at Lathlain’s Mineral Resources Park on a seven-game winning streak.
Emily McGuire kicked two goals in the win for Swan Districts with Carys D’Addario tremendous with 26 possessions, seven tackles and a goal.
Naomi Baker also gathered 18 possessions for the black-and-whites, Jaime Henry 15, Bella Edgley 14 and Summer Ajduk 13 to go with a goal.
Swan Districts made a scorching start to the preliminary final at Sullivan Logistics Stadium with the only four goals of the opening quarter beginning when Carys D’Addario kicked the first goal of the match at the eight-minute mark.
Kayley King added another five minutes later with Emily McGuire then adding two of her own before quarter-time to see the Swans leading by 25 points.
Subiaco did kick their first goal of the game early in the second quarter before Emma Humphries responded for the black-and-whites to push their lead back out to 26 points, and was still a 19-point advantage by the half-time break.
Things tightened up in the third quarter with only one goal scored and that went the way of Subiaco to cut the Swan Districts lead back to just 14 points at three quarter-time.
The Lions then also kicked the first goal of the fourth quarter but Swans responded courtesy of Summer Ajduk to be back out to a 14-point lead.
Subiaco then threw everything at a comeback late and did kick two goals to get it back to two points but Swan Districts held on in the finish to win and advance to the grand final against Claremont.
Swan Districts also were part of the Rogers Cup preliminary final to start the day’s action at Sullivan Logistics Stadium on Sunday morning but it was Claremont that prevailed 7.10 (52) to 4.8 (32).
The Tigers will now play the premiers of the last two years, West Perth, in the grand final this coming Sunday at Mineral Resources Park.
Swan Districts did kick the only goal of the opening quarter of the preliminary final to be leading by five points at quarter-time before Claremont kicked three goals to one in the second term to go into half-time on top by nine points.
The Swans were able to add two goals to one in the third quarter to cut the Claremont lead to three points at three quarter-time, but the Tigers kicked away with the only three goals of the final stanza on the way to the 20-point victory.
Keira Fawcett, Nahala Hall, Sienna Gerardi and Sienna Pollard all kicked a goal each for Swan Districts in the preliminary final.
