Elimination Final WAFL Women’s Match Report

Swan Districts left it late but kicked the only two goals of the last quarter to beat East Fremantle in the first semi-final and advance to this coming Sunday’s WAFL Women’s preliminary final.

Swan Districts played host to East Fremantle in the first semi-final at Steel Blue Oval on Sunday afternoon with the Swans taking on a Sharks team that had played in the last three WAFL Women’s grand finals including winning the 2023 premiership.

East Fremantle would end up kicking the only two goals of the first three quarters of the game, but then Swan Districts kicked two goals in the last quarter from Kayley King and Adi Griffith for the 2.4 (16) to 2.3 (15) victory.

The win sees Swan Districts advance to the preliminary final this coming Sunday at Leederville’s Sullivan Logistics Stadium against Subiaco with a spot in the grand final against Claremont on the line.

Jaime Henry continued her standout form in the midfield for Swan Districts by racking up another 34 possessions and eight tackles with Carys D’Addario also finishing with 26 disposals.

Naomi Baker added 18 possessions for the Swans, Emma Humphries 17, Summer Ajduk 16, Tamzyn Beros 14 and Jemma Sly 13 while Lauren Quaife had 10 to go with 33 hit outs and five tackles in the ruck.

Swan Districts managed just the two behinds in the first quarter of the first semi-final with East Fremantle kicking the only goal to be leading by four points at quarter-time.

It was then another goal from the Sharks in the second quarter to one behind from the Swans and as a result it was East Fremantle on top by nine points at half-time.

East Fremantle kicked three behinds in the third quarter and Swan Districts didn’t manage to score which meant the Sharks were leading by 12 points at three quarter-time.

Swan Districts hadn’t kicked a goal in the first three quarters but that all changed at the five-minute mark of the last term with Kayley King kicking a goal.

Summer Ajduk then kicked a behind for the Swans to make it a five-point margin before the winning goal came from Adi Griffith at the 12-minute mark with the black-and-whites then going on to win by a point in the finish.

It was the second semi-final in the Rogers Cup that got things underway on Sunday at Steel Blue Oval and two-time reigning premiers West Perth ended up beating Swan Districts 7.3 (45) to 1.1 (7).

The Swans did end West Perth’s more than two-year undefeated streak earlier this season but the Falcons have won the last two Rogers Cup premierships and once again finished the 2025 home and away season in top spot.

The second semi-final did take place at Steel Blue Oval on Sunday despite West Perth finishing first and Swan Districts second, but the Falcons were able to kick the only goal of the first quarter.

West Perth then added four more goals in the second term and held Swan Districts scoreless to go into the half-time break leading by 31 points.

Swans did manage to kick the only goal of the third quarter courtesy of Leah Howard but that would prove to be her team’s only goal of the game with West Perth going on to kick the only two goals of the final term to score the 38-point win.

The victory has West Perth as the first team through to the Rogers Cup grand final for 2025 as they hunt a premiership hat-trick while Swan Districts will play Claremont in the preliminary final this Sunday morning at Leederville’s Sullivan Logistics Stadium.
