D’Addario ready to bring it home after winning MVP for WA
D’Addario has enjoyed her first year playing with the state team and improving her skills and now looks to keeping the momentum going as the WAFL Women season play the last round this Sunday before finals begin.
Despite being selected in previous years, this was D’Addario’s first time playing for the state team, after being sidelined in previous years due to injuries.
Being named MVP was not what Carys was expecting out of the time spent playing for WA, but she truly out did herself, being named a key player in every match.
“As a team we showed what we can do…I think we were able to show the recruiters our skills.”
“It was really good fun,” D’Addario said.
The State team were focused on comradery heading into the competition.
“It was one of our trademarks going into the competition, to be connected and be as a team,” D’Addario said.
“We were out there to show everyone what we can do and by playing as a team that would come anyway.”
A challenge that comes with playing for the state team is travelling for tournaments.
D’Addario enjoyed the travel and being around the team.
“I grew up with some of those girls, we played footy for six years,” D’Addario said.
“Being around the team for a good 48 hours before helped to solidify the team connections.”
“The travelling made it seem a bit real like its actually happening.”
D’Addario knew she played good football, but receiving the most valuable player award wasn’t a focus for her.
“I am quite competitive, I was focused on winning and I am so grateful,” D’Addario said.
“I really enjoyed the whole experience…being drafted is the end goal.”
“For now, I am looking to the next few games with Swans and staying healthy and fit.”
The mid fielder played her first game back for Swans last weekend after 6 weeks off playing in the state team selections tournament.
“It’s such a good environment to be in,” D’Addario said.
“I am happy to come back, we are one of the most connected teams.”
The women’s league team has secured a spot in the finals, currently third on the ladder.
“I am confident in all of our abilities, we put in the work,” D’Addario said.
“Now we are focusing on backing ourselves, backing each other…and preparing well.”
“Anything can happen in finals.”
D’Addario found confidence was an issue for her after being injured in previous seasons and doing her best to come back to the game.
“I found coming out of the state squad confidence affected the way I play,” D’Addario said.
“Coming back from playing with the state team I am more confident in my ability than I have been before.”
“When you are confident you play better and do better.”
D’Addario is focused on maintaining this sense of confidence and playing strong football as the WAFL Women team head into the last round of the season before finals.
