Count Me in Round Kicks Goals for Inclusion
The annual Count Me In Round last Saturday was a celebration of inclusion and belonging in the community. This day has become an annual highlight during the WAFL season and this year was no different. The day consisted of four matches, starting with Rogers and WAFL Women taking on Claremont, as the men clashed with the West Coast Eagles in the early afternoon
Our All Abilities team took to the field, and were joined by special guest, 2023 Little Telethon star Harrison Carthew, who ran out with the team before their match against Kingsway.
Swans Disability and Inclusion team met Harrison and his classmates at Gosnell’s Primary School during a wheelchair AFL Incursion at the start of this year.
“Our Disability and Inclusion programs are a key part of our club, and we are continuing to inspire and empower countless individuals living with disabilities through our wide range of programs and that there no barriers to achieve their goals in life” Disability and Inclusion Coordinator Jorja Perdija.
Following the All Abilities match, guests gathered for our annual Count Me In luncheon, where Harrison was invited on stage along with Gosnell’s Primary School teacher Stephanie Cockerill to speak about how Swans disability programs were important in promoting belonging and inclusion in the community
“Harrison loved Swans coming out to our school to play wheelchair footy, Jorja and the team were so kind and really led by example when it came to including Harrison in all aspects of the session. I had my students come to me asking if we could do it again soon! That’s how much they enjoyed it!”
The luncheon also included a performance from all abilities dance group Ballroom Fit who got guests up and dancing during their performance.
We would like to thank Harrison Carthew and Family for being a part of our Count Me in Celebrations and Telethon for their continued support and for making this event possible.
