Preparations Heating Up..............
PREPARATIONS are heating up for the start of the 2018 WAFL season with the Swan Districts players having a strong hit out with an intra club scratch match yesterday.
It has been a strong pre-season for Swan Districts under new senior coach Adam Pickering with Daniel Wulf also appointed reserves coach for 2018 while Greg Harding takes over the helm of the colts having led the league side the past seven seasons.
Pickering is gearing up for his first season in charge of a WAFL team at league level with Swans and after a lot of work being done on the training track over summer, he's looking forward to getting some games underway and seeing how some new faces stack up after impressing during training.
"It's starting to get really close now," Pickering said.
"We have had a couple of match practices at training with umpires, going through structural stuff and game styles so it's not too far away. "We haven’t really recruited anyone as such even though we have some guys who have missed out from other clubs and we have some who have come up from the amateurs and a handful of colts kids.
"There's a few colts kids I think will play league footy this year which is a real positive for the footy club, but aside from Rhys (Palmer) we haven’t actively gone out to sign any big-name recruits."
Following the intra club hit out, Swans will next look forward to the opening round of the official WAFL pre-season fixtures where they take on South Fremantle at Fremantle Community Bank Oval on Saturday March 10.
Following weekend March 17 Swans take on North Beach Amateurs at Steel Blue at 10:30am, then next weekend, Swans host Claremont at Steel Blue Oval on Saturday March 24.
That all leads into Round 1 of the 2018 WAFL season with Swan Districts taking on Perth at Lathlain Park on Saturday March 31.
