Tuesday, August 15, 2017 - 11:32 AM

SWAN Districts has ensured it will have three teams all competing in the Mundella WAWFL grand finals this Sunday after the league side beat East Fremantle in Sunday's preliminary final.

It was a massive day of Mundella WA Women's Football League preliminary finals at Steel Blue Oval on Sunday with grand final positions on the line for the 2017 season.

The highlight was Swan Districts winning the league preliminary final 5.2 (32) to 3.3 (21) against East Fremantle to book a spot against Coastal Titans in the grand final.

The action began with the Rogers Cup preliminary final with South Fremantle taking on the Peel Thunderbirds for the right to play Swan Districts' Youth Girls team in the grand final.

South Fremantle ended up beating the Thunderbirds 5.5 (35) to 2.2 (14).

That sets up this Sunday's grand final at Leederville Oval in the Rogers Cup between Swan Districts and South Fremantle.

Then in the reserves preliminary final, it was East Fremantle kicking the only five goals of the contest to beat Coastal Titans 5.5 (35) to 0.4 (4).

That sees East Fremantle advance to Sunday's reserves grand final also against Swan Districts at Leederville Oval.

It was then time for the main event on Sunday at Steel Blue Oval with the home team and reigning premiers Swan Districts playing East Fremantle in the league preliminary final.

Swans had narrowly lost to Coastal Titans in the second semi-final the previous Sunday at Claremont Oval but had earned the double chance of advancing to the grand final with a second-place finish at the end of the home and away season.

Swan Districts came out firing in the first half kicking two goals to one in the first quarter and another two unanswered goals in the second.

That saw the black-and-whites take a 20-point lead into half-time to have taken a significant step towards another grand final.

Swans didn’t manage to score in the third quarter but the Sharks themselves could only manage 1.3 to close their deficit to 11 points at three quarter-time.

Swan Districts steadied and with both teams kicking a goal apiece in the final quarter, Swans claimed the 11-point victory to advance to this Sunday's grand final against Coastal Titans at Leederville Oval.

That gives the black-and-whites the opportunity to make it back-to-back league premierships in the WAWFL.

Kellie Gibson kicked two goals in the preliminary final win for Swan Districts with Stephanie Cain, Ashley Sharp and Chloe Piparo booting one major apiece.
